Injection moulding is used to create 3D solutions that deliver a strong visual impact and contribute to the quality of your product. These injection moulded badges and nameplates are durable and extremely versatile, so can be used in a range of different environments.
Find out how it works
What are injection moulded badges and nameplates?
Injection moulding is a manufacturing technique to produce 3D templates using thermoplastic material. A thermoplastic is a type of plastic that melts to a liquid when heated, returning to a smooth, solid state when cooled correctly.
It can be a low-cost process if machine engraved aluminium tooling is suitable for your product. Bespoke steel tooling is required for more complex items and long production runs.
Based on your requirements a mould is created that consists of two primary components.
Depending on the complexity of your project, and the length of the production run, these moulds could either be made from machine engraved aluminium or steel. The tool is also used to add any texture required on the product.
Thermoplastic material is then injected into the mould.
Small granules of the plastic are fed from a hopper in a heated barrel. The barrel is designed to heat the thermoplastic evenly, so when it melts it all remains at the correct temperature. The melted plastic is then forced into the mould, which remains cold so the plastic solidifies almost as soon as the mould is filled.
The mould is opened, releasing the 3D badge, label or nameplate.
With the plastic cooled, the new product is ejected. The next step is to apply the coating, which can consist of hot foil or colour inserts (where a separate plastic piece is added to the original product). We can also create chrome plated badges and nameplates where a robust, durable badge is required.

At a glance...
Injection moulding creates products that are extremely versatile and offer a strong visual impact. The overall cost of the production depends on the complexity of the item and the length of the print run, as this determines the most suitable type of tooling.
A range of base materials and foil covers to choose from.
Our special finishes include gloss, matt or brushed chrome, or gold and metallic foils.
Attaching the badge, label or nameplate to your product can be achieved with the use of a self-adhesive, or we can incorporate this detail into the design.
Injection moulding creates extremely durable products that are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, for example a variety of internal and external automotive badges.
