Diametric take key role on panel at event focused on innovation
Reflecting their strong commitment to support innovation, Diametric’s Managing Director Graham Steele took his place judging an ‘open mic’ business pitch at the first ever Venture Fest South.
Taking place last Thursday (9 March) at the Winchester Guildhall, VentureFest saw over 500 attendees. The one-day event was aimed at ‘innovators, entrepreneur and investors,’ and there were two open mic sessions, with Graham taking part in the morning panel. Each new business had three minutes to pitch, and business ideas ranged from wearable assistive technology to prevent falls, to racing car sponsorship opportunities to IoT security and a nutrition app.
“The atmosphere was upbeat and positive during the pitches and I was really impressed to see so much innovation in diverse range of industries,” commented Graham. “It was refreshing to see how they were taking advantage of new technology especially when a lot of the pitches came from young people. To me this is a really positive indication for the future of development, product design and manufacturing in the region.”
The event was a perfect fit for Diametric and the session brought out lots of themes that mirror their own business values and aims. This included efficiency in the supply chain, UK manufacturing, automotive branding, skills for the future, using advanced technology and community engagement.
“ A lot of the ideas resonated with us and events like this highlights how much opportunity there is for collaboration across businesses in the south. It reinforced our commitment to creating successful partnerships and also showed how important it is that the region positions itself to be at the forefront of research, design and innovation, both on a national and global level.”
