ABOUT THE PROJECT

A product rebrand gave Diametric Technical the opportunity to produce a die-cast badge befitting of the quality and precision of Quantum Detectors’ electron detector technology.

At the forefront of their field, creating detector technology for use in scientific research, Quantum Detectors engaged with our expertise to ensure premium branding which reflected the quality of their products. After an initial collaboration for a resin domed gel badge, our ongoing account management and support led to further enquiries from the UK based company. This led to us being tasked with creating a new badge to suit and promote an established piece of equipment.

At the consultation stage, we looked at different manufacturing options to gauge the most appropriate process for the product. Electroforming was the initial preference, but was quickly dismissed due to constraints with the design. The customer brief outlined a badge with depth and detail to accentuate their brand, which led to further samples being reviewed focusing on these features. Die-cast aluminium, popular for its versatility to include intricate details and durability in harsh environments, perfectly matched their concept.

Once the process was established, we met and liaised with Quantum Detectors several times and worked with them to refine the overall size and shape of their design. A range of different diamond cut finishes were also sampled to further highlight and enhance the company branding on the badge’s raised detailing. The finer option was selected as it best complimented the logo, and overall appearance, and provided an eye-catching jewel like finish to the surface.

On approval from Quantum Detectors, we went into full production. The finished badge has not only given an existing product line an uplift, but also provided greater visual impact to accentuate and emphasise the brand.

This project highlights the importance of brand equity and the power of branding to reflect the perceived value of a product. The overall impact of product branding is not only in the design, but in the aesthetics, finish, appearance, and even placement of the badge.
