Manufacturing a range of equipment for use underwater requires specific design features which take into account the challenges of functioning in an extreme environment. Blueprint Subsea pride themselves on developing outstanding systems which are used offshore by a range of industries, including the defence market. Their imaging sonars, acoustic positioning beacons, and diver navigation systems are manufactured and designed in house to ensure their high standards are maintained across all aspects of their products.

Diametric have been working with Blueprint Subsea for a number of years, and share their drive for high quality products, as well as exemplary customer support. When the underwater acoustics specialists began working on expanding their range, we were able to assist them with achieving the optimum solution for their labelling needs.  

When exploring our selection of processes to consider the most suitable options, we needed to focus on both durability and adhesion in salt water. As Blueprint Subsea’s products are submerged at multiple depths – varying from handheld diver navigation systems just below the surface, to multibeam imaging sonars at 4000m – it is crucial any additional components can endure the same conditions across their expected lifespan.

Our industrial overlays, which are both durable and versatile, offered the perfect solution. We worked with Blueprint Subsea to advise them on the different polycarbonates, polyesters, and vinyl available for the base material. We then recommended our reverse printing process to utilise the substrate as a protective layer to the printed detail. As requirements are tailored to meet the exact specification of the end product, a high-performance adhesive was selected to withstand the underwater environment.

Since the initial sample approval and production stage, Diametric has supported Blueprint Subsea across numerous projects to ensure each label and overlay meets their specific requirements.
